FAQ
Q: How can dentistry be portable?
A: By using the most advanced portable dental equipment available, an entire dental office can fit into a small suitcase sized box.

Q: Can x-rays be taken in someone's home?
A: Yes! The newest digital x-ray units now fit into a small suitcase sized box and can be set up in a patient's home in less than 5 minutes. A special computer and film help to reduce x-ray exposure by up to 60%.  The x-ray films produced are of the same, if not higher, quality than what is found in a traditional office.

Q: Is modern portable dental care safe?
A: Yes! In fact, most of our patients feel it is safer than what is found in a traditional dental office. For individuals that are homebound, traveling outside the house exposes them to falls and illness. Bringing dental care directly to the patient eliminates many of the risks associated with traveling out of the house.

Q: Do I have to sit in a dental chair?
A: No! While Bur-Dent Services has a comfortable dental chair with special features for those with special needs, we find that many of our homebound prefer the safety and comfort of their bed or wheelchair. Dr. Burden has a special adjustable headrest that adapts onto a wheelchair. Care is provided to patients where it is most comfortable and safe for them. Dr. Burden has had special training in delivering care to patients who are not in a traditional dental chair. Please advise Dr. Burden prior to your visit if you have any special needs.

Q: Does insurance cover portable dentistry?
A: Yes!  Insurance companies reimburse on what dental procedures have been performed - not where they are performed.

Q: What if I don't have dental insurance?
A: No problem! To help patients and their families pay for needed dental care, our practice offers a variety of payment options. Bur-Dent Services accepts personal checks, credit cards (Visa, Master Card and Discover), and can put together extended payment plans with low interest rates using Care Credit.  Additionally, with our special computer systems, some dental procedures can be submitted to a patient's medical insurance.

Q: Are the dental instruments sterilized?
A: YES!!  As in traditional offices, all instruments must go through a rigorous sterilization process. Instruments are first placed into an ultrasonic tank for 20 minutes while special enzymes and disinfectants break down visible debris. Then, the cleaned instruments are rinsed with water and placed into individually sealed autoclave bags. These autoclave bags are then processed through a steam autoclave for 17min at 137 degrees Centigrade. This method has been proven to kill ALL forms of bacteria, fungi, spores, and viruses with 100% accuracy. Instruments are kept sterile while inside the special autoclave bags and are only removed from their bags when ready for use. A diagnostic indicator is attached to each bag to insure that each cycle of the autoclaving process was successful. Additionally, samples are sent on a quaterly basis to an outside microbiology lab to evaluate and certify that the autoclave is working a peak performance. Instruments and materials that cannot undergo this process are thrown away.
